Candidate Bios & Position Descriptions:
President-Elect Candidates:
Stephen Mastey
Dear Fellow MASLA Members,
It is an honor to be considered as a candidate for President-Elect. Thank you for this opportunity. I joined MASLA/ASLA as a student member and have continued being active in supporting the organization's local and national efforts and events. I've particularly enjoyed the educational opportunities and professional connections made by attending six national conventions.
I love being a landscape architect and feel very strongly about advocating for our profession via ASLA. We know, that particularly right now, we're operating in a challenging market place. My passion for work encourages me to find new ways to promote landscape architects and the range of talents, skills, and experience with which we can position ourselves. That includes recognizing how professional affiliations can boost client's knowledge of us, and their confidence in our work.
Following is a list of my accreditations, and the organizations of which I am an active member: ASLA, CLARB Certified, LEED AP and United States Green Building Council Member, MN GreenStar Technical Advisory Committee & Chair of the Water Conservation Sub-committee, St. Paul District 12 Community Council Member & two sub-committees: Land Use and Environment.
My experience led me to understand that volunteering with many neighborhood level projects positively reinforces the ideas and goals of our profession. It's been my pleasure to bring my experience and commitment to: The Raymond Avenue Traffic Calming Project, Bridging the Gap Project (working to create stronger pedestrian and bicycle connections in St. Anthony Park and Prospect Park Neighborhoods), and also The Hampden Park Master Plan Project.
I feel so fortunate to have been surrounded by many talented and wonderful landscape architects during my formal and professional training. Every day, I continue to grow by forming new professional liaisons, providing mentorship, and interacting with my peers. I've gained experience in many sectors of our profession, worked on a many different sizes of projects, and strive to continue bringing diversity to my company's experience. This is all very important to me, as I want to better understand the broad range of perspectives represented by MASLA/ASLA membership. This understanding, along with the passion I hold for landscape architecture, will help me be a strong and steady advocate for our profession.
Thanks for your vote!
Sincerely,
Stephen Mastey, ASLA, CLARB, LEED AP
Craig Wilson
