Mission
Statement:
Established in 1925, the South Dakota Board of Technical Professions is a
regulatory board charged to provide maximum protection of the life, health,
safety, property and to promote the public welfare to the people of South Dakota
by licensing and regulating architects, professional engineers, land
surveyors, landscape architects and petroleum release assessors and remediators.
A person must be licensed before being permitted to offer these professional
services to the public.
Primary
responsibilities include the review of applications; administrating of state and
national examinations; licensing of qualified professionals; communicating with
licensees and the public regarding the laws, rules and professional standards of
practice of these professions; investigating complaints and disciplinary actions
with hearings; restrict or revoke licenses when generally accepted standards of
practice or conduct are not met; and continuing professional development to
assure that those who practice the professions regulated by this Board attain
and maintain competence in these professions.
The Board is a self
supporting board deriving its revenues from fee charges from licensees. The
Board meetings are open to the public and meeting agendas and minutes are
available on this website when prepared.
